Two More Days at the Orphanage
I'll let Katie tell about our progress, or lack thereof, over the last two days when she blogs later, but I thought I'd post a few of our more recent pictures while she's out for a massage and facial.

Lucy's scabies have migrated to her face and hands and she has a runny nose. We asked the orphanage's doctor yesterday why all of the babies have scabies but the nannies don't. She laughed and translated for the nannies. They all laughed to. "Because they've already had it." They all made scratching motions to show how horrible it was, referencing our own soon-to-be fate. Nice.

Do these two belong together or what?

OK, these two do too.

This is Mason's buddy, Quoc, or Chub-Chub as he affectionately calls him. He's about six weeks older than Lucy and loves Mason. When we arrived today he was asleep, which was a bummer for Mason. He was happy when a few minutes after we arrived Quoc woke up and wanted to play. Mason always just pulls him out of his crib and sits down to play with him without asking beforehand if it is ok. They love Mason so much at the orphanage that they never say boo. Yesterday the nannies made Mason sit in a chair when we got up to leave and then surrounded him so he would wave good-bye to us with them. They wanted him to stay, only partially joking.

Mason spent today drawing the babies and one of the nannies. He started drawing a sweet little boy with a cleft palate. They all gathered around to see how he would draw the boys' face. Once he had finished, one of the nannies brought another baby over that had an extreme cleft palate to up the ante. Mason declined the invitation. They love to play with him. Instead, he chose to draw one of them. They are lined up to have their pictures drawn when he returns tomorrow.

The streets of Saigon are 90% full of motorcycles/scooters. Many wear facemasks and long sleeves to avoid the pollution.

Katie has been so smitten by the Vietnamese that she has decided she needs a Vespa. Here she and Mason are checking out the blue one. She has settled on the yellow one. She just needs to figure out how to fit it in her luggage.

Katie, John and Mason -
Do you know that we are thinking about you every day? Everything seems to be fine at your casa - the kids looked great at church and Grandma looked in control and peaceful. Mason - I'm wondering if you could bring Chub-Chub home to me? I'm serious! Work your magic on the nannies and see what you can do. Continue the good work!
