So Close, and Yet so Far Away...
Before traveling, we visited the county travel clinic where we were briefed on what measures to take to stay healthy while in Vietnam. One of the clear cautions was not to buy fruit that had been cut for us, but only to eat fruits we could peel ourselves. This makes perfect sense to me, as I see the sweet ladies on the street slicing these delectable items with rusted machetes after slicing raw chicken or hacking away at ice made from the polluted river with said machete. Here you see various fruits of Vietnam-aren't they cool? They look like something out of Star Trek, and they are available on every street corner. We could enjoy these fruits every day, because clearly they have peels and we could prepare them ourselves. But, wait, we don't have a knife! Arggh! So close to trying delicious tropical wonders and yet so far away... Posted by Picasa
