I’ve been wondering…
It has been 4 weeks tomorrow, since we left Salt Lake to come to Vietnam. So many things have been on my mind here; how to care for Lucy and how to help my Utah Grahams to feel pleasantly distracted as we are away so long, how to navigate our way through the adoption hurdles and how to cope when things don’t go the way we’d like. John and Mason get on the plane in about 30 hours. I so wish I was leaving with them…and as they get ready to go and we talk about all that they must shoulder when they get home I can’t help but wonder about all I’ve missed being so far away from the people I love so much for this long. You have all been so indulgent, reading these public journal entries and following our experience. But it is one sided, my sided, and I am wondering how you all are doing;
Has Natalie Dutson had her baby? Did all go well? Congratulations! Laura Asay, what are you going to do with your self this year now that your PTA Presidency is through? Macy, did you get into the St. George Marathon? Diane Day, how are you? How is Elizabeth Flynn doing? Has school started in Boise yet? How was the first week for Grace, Read and Haily? Aaron, are you back in the classroom? I can’t wait to see your stairs, I’m sure the bedroom will be done so soon, you and Jody are amazing! Katie, how are you feeling with a new baby on the way? I can’t read your blog from Hanoi! Do I still have tomatoes on the vine at home, will they still be growing nicely when I finally return? Mom G., can Sheralee go with you to Mexico? Linda, have you started the house yet? How is your family? Susie, have you sold your house yet? I’m sure it will happen fast! Jenna, when do you go back to school? How did you fracture your foot Brooke? Was it the trek? Are Peter and Lucy sleeping through the night yet Jody? How about Samuel? How are my cub scouts doing-I feel like such a slacker, but I want the boys to know that I think about them a lot and I still have king size candy bars for them when they can say the scout oath and the scout promise perfectly memorized! I wonder how Holly Bludworth is doing, and also I want to say thank you to Sarah Burton for all she has done to help my mom while I’ve been gone! I’m sure I need to thank Katie and Sarah Flynn too, and countless others. Jen, how are your classes this semester? Jess, how does my garden grow? When are you going to get yourself a real bike so we can ride together? You need a good bike my sweet. And so does Amanda-as soon as she’s had the baby. How are you Amanda? Have you picked a name for Ruby yet?
What will I miss on the first day of school? How will the jet lag be for Lucy? How will the flight be for Lucy? When will they give us her travel visa? What will Mason read on the flight? (he has finished 7 books on this trip!). What new friends will Brynley make this year in school? How long will it be before Madison begs for a longer school day (all day will not be enough for her!). When does preschool start for Porter? Will Molly have a hard time getting used to a little sister (the answer to this question is already known, YES). How will John manage the house and the kids with me away? How will I manage the house and the kids when I get home? How much longer can my mom manage to help John before we drive her batty? Will I spend our anniversary in Hanoi? Oh, I hope not…
All these things, and so many more, are rattling around in my head. How grateful I am to have friends and a life that is so full. Thanks for giving me so many great things to wonder about. I am ready to get back to it, and to bring Lucy into it. I hope to ask all these questions in person and to hear all these answers, and more, very soon!

Katie,
Here's the latest on the Johnson front. Dave started a great new job with Marvell today (Marvell used to be Avago, which used to be Agilent, which used to be an offshoot of HP). It seems to be a wonderful fit.
Today was also the first day of high school (Rolling Hills begins next week). Jenna, of course has been excited/nervous for a week, but came home all smiles. She found her locker, her classrooms, lots of familiar and new friendly faces, good teachers, etc. I'm happy for her, but still can't believe this little one of mine is in HIGH SCHOOL!
Nate, of course, is cool with it all, a pro as a Junior. He'll be starting JV receiver in football and the first game is Friday against Bishop Kelly. He also has to suit up for Varsity, but doubts he'll see any play time there.
Carine got her braces off and is flashing her brilliant smile often. Her burns are healing really well, and I think there will eventually be little scaring. She's suppossed to wear sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat when outside for the next year to lessen the discoloration.
Ridge Galy is playing club soccer and running cross-country for LSMS. He's a busy guy, but the activity is great for him.
And me, I'm just trying to get everyone outfitted for school. Since they're all growing like weeds, this is taking a while. The kids are pleased that Dave has a job so we can shop at JC Pennneys and Old Navy instead of DI and Savers. My house has been on the market for a week, with no bites yet. Of course, housing has taken a downturn here as in many places, but I'm still pretty confident. It turned out really well, and I know there's a family out there somewhere...
I wish sooo much I was there with you to support you and to hold Lucy so you can take a shower, and to help you on the long trip home. I know you would have called had you needed me there.
As for home, you'll be there in the blink of an eye, and will find all well there. In a way, this bonding time you've had with Lucy is a blessing, as she wouldn't have had you exclusively at home with all of the demands of family and community. By the time you get there she will know she is yours.
Remember how much we all love you!!
Love,
Susie, Dave, and the kids.
Hey Katie...
So my mom said you wanted to know how I liked high school--well I don't love it but I don't hate it either!! So first of all, I did not take seminary zero hour for two reasons. One it is way too early for me to be up in order to be ready in time, and two it was packed full! So my first class is global prspectives, and my teachers name is Mr. Blackwood. I guess he is a good teacher, my brother told me that he is a great teacher and that his class is really easy... which means it will be hard for me. Anyway, my second class is Spanish with Mr. Robertson. He is funny. So today we picked our Spanish names, right? Well my friend said that if I pick yours you can mine so our names are Esther and Olga!! Great names, huh!! Third, I have seminary with Shaylie Johnson and Corinne Coleman!! And we don't quite know who our teacher is. Fourth, is ahhhh english with Mrs. Stunz. This will be a fun class I hope!! You see, for the whole 30 minutes she talked about herself and how many kids she has and how she feels about this or that!! Any way, that will be an interesting class! Fifth is with Suzy Day. Finally! Right, I mean what can be better that having a class with your best friend!! I think the teacher (Mr. Mabey) realized that and seperated us first thing, which I guess can be a good thing! And last is geomotry with Mr. Dice who hates freshman and seeing that I am the only one, I am in for a good treat, if you know what I mean... but he seams like a fair teacher and I like the way he grades, which is all or nothing, meaning if you do all the problems you get an "A" and if you do some but not all you get an "F" can you see why I would like that!! I was very happy when I would see a familiar face around the corner or a friend that said, "are you lost?" But what I don't like is that we have to wear our id cards all day every day, but I see why. Another thing is tardys. They will lock the doors when the bell rings, which then you have to go report to the main office and come back 10 minutes later to go into class. And the first one you get you get lunch detention!! I don't want to be late!! I only got lost 3 times, and was able open my TOP locker every time!!
well this is all i can report for now so i love you and i can't wait to meet lucy see you later!!!
